It’s the little things…

Okay, I’m feeling all…happy.  Yes, dare I say it?  It’s been a good few days.  And after last week, I needed this reprieve in a HUGE way.

So, here’s my list of simple stuff that made me smile:

1. I scored a Wii Fit on Saturday without even trying!  I turned around and there it was in the video game case at Target.  An employee had just found three of them in the back room and put them out.  So, one thing off of the Christmas list.  (Yes, all of my friends are laughing because they know me too well.  I hear your snickers, you who think I won’t wait until Christmas.  But I am a new woman, my friends.  Besides, if I open it now, The Hubby might not get me anything else!)

2.  We survived the torrential rains that hit the midwest this weekend, and Ike veered off to our east before deluging us with more.  No water in the basement, unlike some of our devastated neighbors.  And after the skies had cleared, we actually saw an entire rainbow!  The boys loved that.

3.  The CJer and I went shopping today (from 10:30am to 2:30pm).  I’m not talking Wal-Mart, people.  We hit Williams Sonoma, Barnes & Noble, Michaels…you know, Momma’s favorite stores.  No tantrums, no whining, nothing.  He was wonderful.  We had fun.  And through it all, he did nothing but whisper sweet nothings to me.  ‘Mommy, your hair looks pretty.’ – ‘Mommy, I like your shirt.’ – ‘Mommy, I think your pink lips (lipstick) are pretty.’  – ‘Mommy, I love shopping with you.’

I know, it just melts your heart, doesn’t it?  If you knew my son, you would know how much more special an uneventful shopping day is.  Usually he’s off hiding behind displays, waiting for Momma to call in the search dogs, or he’s stomping about the store and yelling because he didn’t get to pick the squished candy up off of the floor.  Typically, there is no happy medium.

4.  I found Batman underoos on clearance!  That’s a bigger score than the Wii Fit in this house right now.  With a child who still isn’t potty trained at the age of 4, we are going through underwear faster than a household of people with a stomach virus.

5.  We accomplished projects over the weekend.  This is really news worthy, because it’s been weeks since a human hand has touched the flower beds around here.  I’m sure our neighbors are rejoicing because Momma’s house isn’t looking so trashy now.

6.  The Hubby and I got to make out like teenagers last night.  Unfortunately the margaritas he made were a bit too strong, and I konked out before things got really exciting.  But there were no kids around, and we were ALONE!!!

7.  Awesome worship time at church yesterday.  (Nice to mention that after talking about margaritas and making out.)  You know how there are times when the music just takes you to a special place of worship, and you are truly praising our Heavenly Father through song?  It was beautiful.  To make it even better, I could hear my sweet Bay trying to sing along.

8.  Bay told us last night that he was, as he put it, ”sharing God” with a friend at school.  I love those fleeting glimpses into my childrens’ hearts.

9.  I found out that I won a contest over at Musings of a Housewife.  Woo hoo!  Hors d’ouevres.  That should help me out on SparkPeople.  :) )

It’s a nice change of pace to take joy in the little things and not feel so overwhelmed by life.  I need to do this more often.
