Wii are going through withdrawal

My family  likes  has an affinity for  is addicted to video games.

At last tally I came to the mindnumbing realization that we play on Playstation, multiple Nintendo DS’s, the PSP (believe it or not, my husband thought that would make a great Mother’s Day present for me several years ago…it now sits on his nightstand, covered by CJ’s mystery finger goo), the PC platform and, of course, the Wii.

There are a multitude of games sitting in Rubbermaid containers under the entertainment system.  Every now and then, a little OCD takes over, and I attempt to alphabetize and categorize all of them.  Why, do you ask, do you even bother?  (A valid mom question.) Consider it the final frontier.  I’ve given up on their book collections, their trading card games, the vast number of Star Wars Lego sets.  This is my Waterloo.  If I can’t win this one, all hope is lost for organization in this household.

Somehow I find it all therapeutic.  I sit for a good couple of hours and let the librarian in me come out.  Of course, the whole system collapses when the kids begin to rifle through, searching for All Star Baseball (um, right in front of you) or Zelda (please proceed to the rear of the drawer).  Before long, BoomBlox is resting behind Ghost Recon, and Tiny Tank is nowhere to be seen.  Never mind the fact that these aren’t even for the same game systems, and my Playstation games are now running amuck with Wii discs.  It’s really. quite. maddening.

(Counting backwards from 10)

Anyhoo – recently our beloved Wii has been groaning under the pressure.  First an error message, then the loud whining noise, but we pressed on.  It wasn’t until Super Smash Brothers came along that the Wii just said “I quit.”  My husband would painstakingly attempt to load the game, sometimes sitting there for 20 minutes at a time, cursing the Wii under his breath.  So, we’re loading up the little magic white box and sending it off to never, neverland (otherwise known as the repair center.)

Sidenote: For all of you Wii owners out there – There is a long list of FAQ’s regarding Wii problems on Nintendo’s website.  But, if you register your Wii on the website, they will extend your warranty for another three months.   Something smells of poor design.

Oh well, I guess it will just give us more time to find Wii Fitness, because we all know that there’s nothing like a video game to help us on our quest for better health and wellness.

And then there is that small bit of consolation…my Wii games will sit undisturbed for weeks on end.  Lovingly arranged from A Bug’s Life to Zaboomafoo.

  1. Ahh yes. Alphabetizing the games (and dvds & cds for that matter) is something I like to do as well. It’s good to hear that you’re trying to keep up with it and I truly hope you win the battle against the kids. :)

So, maybe now’s not the time to ask you if you think that the boys would like sets of Nerf Wii sports equipment for Christmas?!!
